Apparently, there are 15 units of unregistered, brand new Satria GTIs for sale in USJ. Posted on ZTH, these are reportedly converted-LHD versions which never left the Proton Yard. Amazing but true.

The SGTI was Proton’s first production performance hatch, first released in 1999. With a 138 bhp (103 kW) 1.8-litre Mitsubishi-sourced 4G93P engine, the Lotus-tuned SGTI was also Proton’s fastest production car. From the MMC version, it evolved into the VDO (Siemens) version before officially end-of-lined in 2004. The SGTI platform, of course, didn’t at all die. In 2005, R3 developed the limited edition track-special Satria R3 in full Incognito Black glory, based on its SGTI underpinnings.

Known also as the R3 Neo CS S1, this is one of only 20 limited edition road-legal track specials built by R3 as part of a single-make racing series. Powered by a 137bhp 1.6-litre Campro engine, the sub-3min car comes with a rollcage, full bucket seats, racing suspension & brakes and weighs in at a scant 1,050kilos.

This particular one was spotted at the recent HPC Track Experience Day & Time Attack, and is owned by one Remus Chang – buyer of my custom made CF-pedals taken of my Satria R3 some years ago!

Pretty surprised to see R3′s maiden commercial project car – the Satria R3 being featured on Proton’s site. As you may already know, the www.racerallyreseach.com website was shutdown circa 2008. Looks like Proton’s committed to moving the R3 brand forward. Yippee.

The IGNITION.MY-RCA SPEED CHALLENGE SERIES was created to provide the real-life excitement of console-game racing simulations such as Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsports! Targeted at tuned Street-spec cars and run in a format just like in the games, we offer the opportunity to bring your hopped-up ride to the circuit and run a 3-lap Time Challenge in heats of 8 cars at a time! Organised in a League-table, best-4 times from Heat 1 will run again with cars with the best-4 times from Heat 2, and vice-versa, culminating in a Final Heat comprising of the drivers that set the best-8 times during the preliminary heats.

Round 1 will be held at Sepang International Circuit on 26 Sept 2010!

SCHEDULE

• MORNING 9:00 am – 12:00 noon  - Open track day
• Charges: RM 300 per entry / SGD 130
• RM 200 per entry for Speed Challenge participants
• Transponders extra RM 120 / SGD 50

AFTERNOON 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm – Speed Challenge event with the following categories

• FF Festival
• FR Series
• 4WD Battle
• MR Pursuit
• Open Game (anything goes, Race-cars up to 2000cc included)
