R3gister member, GTi777 shares a step-by-step installation guide for an Aussie-sourced B&M short shifter kit for his SGTi.
Tools needed:
- Philips head screwdriver
- Flat-blade screwdriver
- Needle-nose pliers
- 12mm Open-ended Spanner
- 1/2″ Open-ended Spanner

Start

Remove gear knob and plastic surrounding

Remove the cotto pin from the bottom of the shifter

Undo and reomove the pivot screw

Carefully remove the return spring

Remove the plastic plugs and steel tube from stock shifter

Place the platsic plugs and steel tube into the new shifter

Put a bit of grease on the base pivot and slot into hole
“This bit is a little frustrating, it only just fits in”

Place the fore-aft cable back on & install the supplied e-clip on shifter pin

Carefully place the return spring back in place

Place the stock washers and pivot bolt back on & tighten to firm grip

From here I just put a heap of marine grease everywhere

Wha-la all done, without any modifications or problems
A big thank you to GTi777 for a great guide and also for granting permission to republish this for the benefit of everyone at the R3gister. Cheerios!
