Proton honoured by Malay Mail award
Original article by NURFAINIE IRDINA GANI

Desire certainly has a new name. Proton’s sporty hatch - the Satria Neo was honoured by The Malay Mail with The Coolest Car award, beating three other nominees - Honda Civic, Naza Bestari 206 and Toyota Yaris.

The event, held on Jan 12, saw 27 awards presented to 25 recipients for outstanding achievements in their industries based on the selection from the daily’s five pullouts namely Cache, Mail Motor, Escape, Style and Buzz.

“The two-door Satria Neo is stylish and that attracts customers,” said Gary Lee, Proton Holdings Media and Public Relations executive.

“The car is complete with features to ensure the safety of the driver and passengers. It is also a powerful car,” Lee added.

The Malay Mail deputy editor Yushaimi Maulud Yahaya presented the special award to Lee and Proton Holdings Media Relations executive Badri Ibrahim for winning the Coolest Car category in The Malay Mail-Carlsberg Year End Salute 2006.

Not exactly Top Gear or Autocar Car of the Year award, but the accolade proves one thing - Proton strength in design. Hopefully this accolade inspires Proton to be better in other areas in which it is lacking - overall quality and finishing, interior fittings and materials.

Well done, Proton!

High Performance Club (HPC) is once again teaming up with Proton R3 (Race • Rally • Research) to bring motorheads racing experiences to savour, with a series of track and racing experiences throughout 2007. The first-ever “All-Club’ R3 Wheel 2 Wheel experience will give wannabe racers a chance to taste wheel-to-wheel race action in specially prepared R3 Satria race cars.

How Does it Work?
Car clubs will nominate 3 drivers from their club to undergo the training. This is a full day course with each driver getting an autocross car familiarisation training, classroom session, 2 sessions on track, followed by a 10 minute paced group run in identical track prepared Proton R3 Satria Racecars. See schedule for details. Drivers will be with an assigned instructor throughout the day with the exception of the paced run. Although the cars will run wheel to wheel in the paced run, THIS IS NOT A RACE. The goal is to get an experience of what it is like to run wheel to wheel, but in a safe controlled simulation.

How much does it cost?
The total for the complete program that includes the car, an assigned instructor, the track time, lunch for 3 drivers and the training is RM1170. Divided by 3 drivers, this works out to RM390 per driver.

Who can sign up?
This program is catered to car clubs that have registered with HPC. It is not intended for beginners, so choose 3 experienced drivers from your club to join the program.

Who is responsible for damage?
The drivers are responsible for any damage that they cause to the Racecar and will sign a rental contract to that fact.

How do I sign up?
Get your group of 3 drivers together from your car club and fill out the registration form here. There is a limit of 8 cars in this program so get your registraton in early.
